Bail has come to be seen as something that his inherently unequal.
But bail is just a way the jail system attempts to guarantee that a defendant makes it a priority to arrive at their court dates while working in parallel with the public safety and, in turn, balancing the restraints put on a defendant’s liberty.
In this day and age, as long as the person has not been charged with a capital offense (since, for them, there would be no bail), affluent defendants can simply purchase a bail bond and be back out on the street immediately, regardless of how dangerous they may be to the public.
This is a way that bail hurts low-income clients, and it’s the exact reason I came up with the bail now, pay later concept. It’s so that bail can be afforded by everyone, regardless of whether you’re rich or poor, and no matter what your race, ethnicity or gender you may be.
